The problem with clothes

is that you have to wear them...

For the last week or so, Sarah has developed a habit to taking all her clothes off, when she's in her crib, or even sometimes playing. This includes taking her diaper off. At first it was kind of cute, but now its getting just a tad frustrating. Although, she has yet to have an accident in the crib or on the floor, I don't want her to have the chance. I'm not sure what to do at this time. I have started potty training her, so maybe she really really hates being in her diaper.

Never the less, its just another glorious aspect of parenting. I wouldn't trade it for the world. ;-)

Back at Last

I apologize to my readers (all two of you) for taking an unexpected blog hiatus. I could blame my ADD, but let's be honest its a combination of being incredibly busy and kind of lazy as well. Never the less, I'm here.

The last couple of months feel like a blur. Matt and I were part of two weddings, Sarah is a full fledged toddler (with the spunk and sass to go with it), and I started nursing classes.

The weddings were absolutely beautiful. Our friends, Wayne & Carolyn were married in May, and our friends Lauren & Chris were married this past weekend. Both were unique and special in their own way. And at both weddings, Matt and I got to cut a rug on the dance floor. Matt gave an amazing best man speech at the last wedding, and made some people cry. Aww. Yeah, he's a keeper.

Sarah is well...how do I describe her? She's so full of energy, personality, craziness, spunk, sass, and vinegar. She's a joy to be with and rather difficult to discipline. Although we're working hard on the latter. I honestly can't believe how fast time goes. Its sad and rewarding that she's turning two in early September. Its sad because she's officially not a baby anymore. It's rewarding because its another milestone that Matt and I are proud to witness. She is doing well in pretty much all measures of development. She is quite tall for her age; I've had people mistake her for as old as three. Yikes! Never the less, we're enjoying her as much as we can. I'm still home with her, so I've been really selfish in spending my time with her.

I started pre-req classes for the nursing program I want to take, this past May. So far, I'm doing really well in the classes, and I'm looking forward to taking some of the regular nursing classes. It looks like I'll have this fall and next spring off, and then begin classes again next summer. I should be finished by summer of 2011. It also looks like I'll have spring semester of 2011 off as well. I love that the program is mostly online; you still have clinical rotations at the school and local hospitals. This has been such a great option, since I can still be at home with Sarah and study when she's napping or sleeping at night. I also love the breaks in between some of the semesters. All in all, its the perfect fit for our family.

Lastly, our family has grown out of this condo that we're living in now. So, we're selling it. We were so surprised that we received an offer after our place was on the market for one week. It has been a big blessing, and we hope to be officially out of here after 3 months maximum. We'll be renting a house for a while. That'll be a lot of fun! Sarah and Jasmine might appreciate a backyard to run around in.

So that's life so far. I'll post pics when I get a chance. Hope all is well in blogland!

Spring is in the air!

Today is the first day of spring. Spring is by far one of my favorite seasons. I was born during Spring, after all!

This season is a beautiful season for new beginnings. A perfect time to celebrate God's creation. As we ease ourselves into this new season, people are celebrating in different ways. Ever heard of spring cleaning?

We're in the middle of a move, so its the perfect time to get the house in order and clean like crazy. I already have a few boxes full of stuff, only the rest of the house to go!

Today, Sarah and I are going to work on a fun craft, and go outside to enjoy the sunny weather. I hope all of you have a wonderful day, and have lots of fun celebrating Spring!

Cigarette Butt= Condo Building Fire...

I swear our life is full of so many random events. What are the odds that your condo building will be on fire?

Yesterday, at 1am, Matt woke me up and said, groggily, "What's going on outside?" A couple of minutes later, we hear banging on our door. Matt ran to open the door and I hear men yelling "Firemen, GET OUT."

This is where I'm thankful for mother nature. My motherly instinct kicked in, and I ran to Sarah's room, grabbed her and made my way to the stairs. That's when I smelled all the smoke. Since I was running on pure adrenaline, and "flight" instinct, I didn't think to put shoes on or grab jackets for the both of us. Poor Sarah was only in a onesie. When we got outside we went and huddled with some of neighbors for a bit.

Thankfully, Matt remembered to grab his keys, so we ended up sitting in the car; with the heater on. Sarah was wide awake at this point. She and our dog, thought it was playtime. After about twenty minutes, they let everyone back in the condo building. When we went back to our home, we noticed smoke inside the main part of the home and especially in Sarah's room. We decided to take her to my parent's home, to spend the night. We spent the rest of the morning, airing out her room and the rest of the house.

Thankfully, everyone was okay. No one got hurt, which is the most important part. The official cause of the fire was that a cigarette butt was thrown in to the mulch/brush outside the first floor condo. We have a distinct feeling on who it was, but I'm not going to point any fingers right now.

At first, I thought the mulch spontaneously combusted (because they do that) but Matt called the Fire Marshall and they said the official cause was a "extinguished tobacco product." Makes much more sense.

I'm trying not to get upset, but the mother in me is absolutely livid that someone could be so careless. The fire was in direct path of Sarah's nursery, and every time I think about it, I get choked up.

Furthermore, the reason it took us so long to get out, our fire alarm never triggered. No one on our floor had their fire alarm trigger (The first and second floors' did). In fact, one lady on our floor never made it out. She was still sleeping, even though our neighbors banged on her door. That makes me even more upset. Hopefully, the condo assoc. will pay to have the fire alarms tested.

All I have to say is that, God sent some angels to look out for everyone that night. We are very thankful that no one got hurt. I'm thinking of baking some treats for the some of the firefighters...

Here are some pics that Matt took:

There were at least 8-10 fire trucks on our street

Assessing the damage in the morning.

Sarah's room was in direct path of the fire...

Cheap siding. It pretty much melted.....

Fishers of men

I've been sick the past two days so I haven't had much time to post. Today, I'm feeling much better and I can actually swallow liquids without being in pain. YAY.

I caught this video on Faith & Family, and I thought to pass it along. This beautiful video describes how important the priesthood is. With the birthrate in America declining and the average American family becoming smaller, we need a little reminder, that as parents, we should not be afraid to encourage our children to seek God's will in their life. I understand that as parents we look forward to all major life events for our children. However, when our child gives their life to God in the form of a vocation such as the priesthood or becoming a nun, we should celebrate and not mourn. What wondrous things have been accomplished by following God's will!
